- Important Information About Adding Your Maternal Last Name: Adding your maternal last name is your right, and yes, you can do it. However, based on our experience, we strongly advise against it if your maternal last name does not appear on your U.S. birth certificate or ID. Including your maternal last name may cause confusion or unwanted attention from third parties (such as airlines, government authorities, or banks) that are not familiar with the use of maternal last names. Additionally, please note that your U.S. passport will list only one last name, while your Mexican passport would display two last names. Once you confirm your name, any future changes may require additional services and processing fees.
- When applying for Mexican citizenship, only the parent you apply through will be fully listed. If you apply through one parent (e.g., your mother), your other parent's information (e.g., your father's) will stay exactly as shown on your U.S. birth certificate. If you don't provide information for a parent, you cannot request a correction.
- DOB format used in Mexico: DD/MM/YYYY
- Nationality: Mexicana is a femenine noun. It does not refer to the sex of the person. It applies for both men and women. ADDITIONAL EXAMPLES: Argentina, Italiana, Guatemalteca.
- Corrections can take on average from 1 up to 2 weeks to complete.
- Once you submit the correction form, your order will be officially registered. Your correction timeframe will no longer apply, you are okay if you submitted inside the timeframe. You will receive a confirmation email once we receive your correction request, and our team will notify you as soon as the correction is completed.
Correction Requests:
Your correction request may be approved or denied. Decisions are based on Mexican citizenship regulations and the criteria of local authorities. If your correction is denied, our team will provide you with the reason for the denial.
